Once upon a time, there was a little girl who lived in a village near the forest. Whenever she went out, the little girl wore a red riding cloak, so everyone in the village called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One morning, Little Red Riding Hood asked her mother if she could go to visit her grandmother as it had been a while since they'd seen each other.
"That's a good idea," her mother said. So they packed a nice basket for Little Red Riding Hood to take to her grandmother.

When the basket was ready, the little girl put on her red cloak and kissed her mother goodbye.
"Remember, go straight to Grandma's house," her mother cautioned. "Don't dawdle along the way and please don't talk to strangers! The woods are dangerous."

But when Little Red Riding Hood noticed some lovely flowers in the woods, she forgot her promise to her mother. She picked a few, watched the butterflies flit about for awhile, listened to the frogs croaking and then picked a few more.
Little Red Riding Hood was enjoying the warm summer day so much, that she didn't notice a dark shadow approaching out of the forest behind her...

Suddenly, the wolf appeared beside her.
"What are you doing out here, little girl?" the wolf asked in a voice as friendly as he could muster.
"I'm on my way to see my Grandma who lives through the forest, near the brook," Little Red Riding Hood replied.
Then she realized how late she was and quickly excused herself, rushing down the path to her Grandma's house.
The wolf, in the meantime, took a shortcut...

The wolf, a little out of breath from running, arrived at Grandma's and knocked lightly at the door.
"Oh thank goodness dear! Come in, come in! I was worried sick that something had happened to you in the forest," said Grandma thinking that the knock was her granddaughter.
The wolf let himself in. Poor Granny did not have time to say another word, before the wolf gobbled her up!

The wolf let out a satisfied burp, and then poked through Granny's wardrobe to find a nightgown that he liked. He added a frilly sleeping cap, and for good measure, dabbed some of Granny's perfume behind his pointy ears.
A few minutes later, Little Red Riding Hood knocked on the door. The wolf jumped into bed and pulled the covers over his nose. "Who is it?" he called in a crackly voice.
"It's me, Little Red Riding Hood."
"Oh how lovely! Do come in, my dear," croaked the wolf.

When Little Red Riding Hood entered the little cottage, she could scarcely recognize her Grandmother.
"Grandmother! Your voice sounds so odd. Is something the matter?" she asked.
"Oh, I just have touch of a cold," squeaked the wolf adding a cough at the end to prove the point.

"But Grandmother! What big ears you have," said Little Red Riding Hood as she edged closer to the bed.
"The better to hear you with, my dear," replied the wolf.
"But Grandmother! What big eyes you have," said Little Red Riding Hood.
"The better to see you with, my dear," replied the wolf.
"But Grandmother! What big teeth you have," said Little Red Riding Hood her voice quivering slightly.
"The better to eat you with, my dear," roared the wolf and he leapt out of the bed and began to chase the little girl.

Almost too late, Little Red Riding Hood realized that the person in the bed was not her Grandmother, but a hungry wolf.
She ran across the room and through the door, shouting, "Help! Wolf!" as loudly as she could.
A woodsman who was chopping logs nearby heard her cry and ran towards the cottage as fast as he could.
He grabbed the wolf and made him spit out the poor Grandmother who was a bit frazzled by the whole experience, but still in one piece.

"Oh Grandma, I was so scared!" sobbed Little Red Riding Hood, "I'll never speak to strangers or dawdle in the forest again."
"There, there, child. You've learned an important lesson. Thank goodness you shouted loud enough for this kind woodsman to hear you!"
The woodsman knocked out the wolf and carried him deep into the forest where he wouldn't bother people any longer.

"Just press the latch," called out the grandmother. "I'm too weak to get up."

Little Red Cap had run after the flowers. After she had gathered so many that she could not carry any more, she remembered her grandmother, and then continued on her way to her house. He stepped into the parlor, and when he approached the bed, he saw the wolf lying there. "So here I find you, you old sinner," he said. "I have been hunting for you a long time."
He was about to aim his rifle when it occurred to him that the wolf might have eaten the grandmother, and that she still might be rescued. So instead of shooting, he took a pair of scissors and began to cut open the wolf's belly. After a few cuts he saw the red cap shining through., and after a few more cuts the girl jumped out, crying, "Oh, I was so frightened! It was so dark inside the wolf's body!"
And then the grandmother came out as well, alive but hardly able to breathe. Then Little Red Cap fetched some large stones. She filled the wolf's body with them, and when he woke up and tried to run away, the stones were so heavy that he immediately fell down dead.

"If we hadn't been on a public road, he would have eaten me up," she said.
"Come," said the grandmother. "Let's lock the door, so he can't get in."
Soon afterward the wolf knocked on the door and called out, "Open up, grandmother. It's Little Red Cap, and I'm bringing you some baked things."
They remained silent, and did not open the door. Gray-Head crept around the house several times, and finally jumped onto the roof. He wanted to wait until Little Red Cap went home that evening, then follow her and eat her up in the darkness. But the grandmother saw what he was up to. There was a large stone trough in front of the house.
"Fetch a bucket, Little Red Cap," she said to the child. "Yesterday I cooked some sausage. Carry the water that I boiled them with to the trough." Little Red Cap carried water until the large, large trough was clear full. The smell of sausage arose into the wolf's nose. He sniffed and looked down, stretching his neck so long that he could no longer hold himself, and he began to slide. He slid off the roof, fell into the trough, and drowned. And then the grandmother came out as well, alive but hardly able to breathe. Then Little Red Cap fetched some large stones. She filled the wolf's body with them, and when he woke up and tried to run away, the stones were so heavy that he immediately fell down dead.

Soon afterward the wolf knocked on the door and called out, "Open up, grandmother. It's Little Red Cap, and I'm bringing you some baked things."
They remained silent, and did not open the door. Gray-Head crept around the house several times, and finally jumped onto the roof. He wanted to wait until Little Red Cap went home that evening, then follow her and eat her up in the darkness. But the grandmother saw what he was up to. There was a large stone trough in front of the house.
"Fetch a bucket, Little Red Cap," she said to the child. "Yesterday I cooked some sausage. Carry the water that I boiled them with to the trough." Little Red Cap carried water until the large, large trough was clear full. The smell of sausage arose into the wolf's nose. He sniffed and looked down, stretching his neck so long that he could no longer hold himself, and he began to slide. He slid off the roof, fell into the trough, and drowned. And Little Red Cap returned home happily, and no one harmed her.

I believe, too, that you do not hear how sweetly the little birds are singing. You walk gravely along as if you were going to school, while everything else out here in the wood is merry."
Little red-cap raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees, and pretty flowers growing everywhere, she thought, suppose I take grandmother a fresh nosegay. That would please her too. It is so early in the day that I shall still get there in good time. And so she ran from the path into the wood to look for flowers. And whenever she had picked one, she fancied that she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.
Meanwhile the wolf ran straight to the grandmother's house and knocked at the door.

She was surprised to find the cottage-door standing open, and when she went into the room, she had such a strange feeling that she said to herself, oh dear, how uneasy I feel to-day, and at other times I like being with grandmother so much. She called out, "good morning," but received no answer. So she went to the bed and drew back the curtains. There lay her grandmother with her cap pulled far over her face, and looking very strange.

How dark it was inside the wolf. And after that the aged grandmother came out alive also, but scarcely able to breathe. 外婆馬上急急忙忙跑去過開門。卻看到一支大野狼，張開血紅的大嘴巴，朝她撲上來說：「哈哈哈 …… 我是來吃你的。我好幾天沒吃東西，餓死了！」
外婆嚇得渾身發抖，卻沒有地方可逃。大野狼張牙舞爪的撲在她身上，「咕嚕！」一聲，把她整個吞到肚子里去了。
然後大野狼又穿上外婆的睡衣，爬到床上，裝成外婆正在床上睡覺的樣子。
不一會兒，它就聽到小紅帽一路唱著歌兒，向著外婆家走來。
大野狼聽到歌聲，趕緊把棉被拉高，盡量把頭蓋起來。
「砰砰砰 …… 」小紅帽敲敲門。等了一會，就自己推開門進來了。
小紅帽說：「外婆，您好些沒有？我帶了很多好吃的東西來看您，快起來嘛！」
大野狼說：「噢，你來了，我的乖孫女兒，外婆正想著你呢！」
外婆，您的聲音好怪哦！」小紅帽說。
大野狼說：「我感冒了呀，聲音才變了！」
「外婆，你真可憐。」小紅帽拿著花兒走到床邊，安慰外婆說：「外婆，我特地為您采了一些花，您看，漂不漂亮？，我把花放在花瓶里吧。」
「小紅帽，謝謝你，快過來讓我仔細瞧瞧是不是又長高了？」大野狼說。
小紅帽聽話的走到床前，她看見「外婆」時嚇了一跳，說：「外婆，您 …… 您的耳朵變得好大哦！」
大野狼趕快用棉被把臉蓋緊，只露出兩支大眼睛和大耳朵。回答說：「耳朵大，才聽得清楚你說什麼話呀 !! 」
「可是，您的眼睛也變得好大哦！」
「這樣才看得清楚你的臉呀。」
「可是 …… 您的嘴巴也變得好大好大呀！」
「嘴巴這么大，才可以一口把你吃掉呀！」
大野狼突然從床上跳了起來，不但推倒了床邊的桌子，也打翻了花瓶。
小紅帽差點兒嚇昏了，「哎呀，怎麼是大野狼？我的外婆呢？是不是被吃掉了？」她想喊救命，卻叫不出聲音來，想逃也跑不動，很快就被大野狼抓到了。
大野狼張開大嘴，「咕嚕！」一聲，連咬都沒咬，就把小紅帽吞到肚子里去了。大野狼一下子吃得太飽，它撫摸一下撐脹的肚子，真開心，滿意極了。它自言自語的說：「一口氣吃下兩個人，肚子太飽太飽了。我要睡個午覺。」
大野狼捧著大肚子，往床上一躺，馬上就睡著了，而且睡得很熟很熟，呼呼的鼾聲大到整個森林都聽得到。
這時正在森林裡追捕狐狸的獵人來到老婆婆家門口，他覺奇怪，為什麼老婆婆家裡有那麼可怕的打呼聲，這是怎麼回事？
獵人悄悄打開老婆婆家的門，果然發現一支大野狼挺著好大好大的肚子，躺在老婆婆的床上，舒舒服服睡得正香呢！在大野狼肚子里的老婆婆和小紅帽，聽到有人推門，馬上大聲喊叫：「救命啊！」
獵人終於了解，原來大野狼這個可惡的傢伙，把老婆婆和可愛的小紅帽吃到肚子 去了。獵人說：「還好，她們還活著。我趕快把她們救出來吧！」
獵人拿出一把大剪刀，趁著大野狼還沒有睡醒，用最快的動作，很小心的喀嚓喀嚓，把大野狼的肚皮剪開。
老婆婆和小紅帽從野狼的肚子里跳出來說：「謝謝，謝謝您救了我們祖孫兩人！」
大野狼睡得太香太熟了，連肚皮被剪開了還不知道。「這支大野狼，實在太壞、太可惡了，我們來想個辦法，好好處罰它！」
三個人商量好了，決定在剪開的野狼肚子里，裝進一堆石頭。
一顆、兩顆、三顆 ……小紅帽一邊搬石頭，一邊數數兒，直到數到一百。獵人說可以了，便請老婆婆用針線把它的肚皮縫起來。
獵人說：「我們先到外面躲起來，看大野狼醒過來會怎麼樣？」
等了好一會兒，才聽到大野狼自言自語說：「啊，睡得好舒服哇！」
「咦，肚子怎麼這么重呢？她們倆有這么重嗎？啊，好渴，好想喝水呀！」
大野狼想喝水，可是都起不來。大野狼努力了半天，好不容易才下了床。它很吃力的一步一步走出老婆婆家，一直往外面走。
「奇怪，好渴呀，真受不了。」大野狼一邊走，一邊自言自言。它走到一口井前面，沒想到探身想打水的時候，因為肚子里的石頭太重，「撲通」一聲，栽進井裡，再也爬不上來了。
獵人、小紅帽、老婆婆三人又叫又笑，真是高興極了。小紅帽看著外婆說：「外婆，您的感冒好些了沒有？」外婆笑著說：「嗯，這一嚇，把病都給嚇好了。我都忘了自己在生病呢？」
他們三個人在一起，吃著小紅帽帶來的點心及飲料，度過了一段快樂的時光。
「啊！時候不早了，小紅帽該回家了。」
外婆在小紅帽的籃子里，裝滿了又香又甜的草莓，並且對她說：「小紅帽，趕快回家去，別貪玩，也不要隨便和陌生人聊天哦，祝你平安回到家。」

Once upon a time there was a dear little girl who was loved by every one who looked at her, but most of all by her grandmother, and there was nothing that she would not have given to the child. Once she gave her a little cap of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear anything else. So she was always called little red-cap.
One day her mother said to her, come, little red-cap, here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine. Take them to your grandmother, she is ill and weak, and they will do her good. Set out before it gets hot, and when you are going, walk nicely and quietly and do not run off the path, or you may fall and break the bottle, and then your grandmother will get nothing. And when you go into her room, don't forget to say, good-morning, and don't peep into every corner before you do it.
I will take great care, said little red-cap to her mother, and gave her hand on it.
The grandmother lived out in the wood, half a league from the village, and just as little red-cap entered the wood, a wolf met her. Red-cap did not know what a wicked creature he was, and was not at all afraid of him.
"Good-day, little red-cap," said he.
"Thank you kindly, wolf."
"Whither away so early, little red-cap?"
"To my grandmother's."
"What have you got in your apron?"
"Cake and wine. Yesterday was baking-day, so poor sick grandmother is to have something good, to make her stronger."
"Where does your grandmother live, little red-cap?"
"A good quarter of a league farther on in the wood. Her house stands under the three large oak-trees, the nut-trees are just below. You surely must know it," replied little red-cap.
The wolf thought to himself, what a tender young creature. What a nice plump mouthful, she will be better to eat than the old woman. I must act craftily, so as to catch both. So he walked for a short time by the side of little red-cap, and then he said, "see little red-cap, how pretty the flowers are about here. Why do you not look round. I believe, too, that you do not hear how sweetly the little birds are singing. You walk gravely along as if you were going to school, while everything else out here in the wood is merry."
Little red-cap raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees, and pretty flowers growing everywhere, she thought, suppose I take grandmother a fresh nosegay. That would please her too. It is so early in the day that I shall still get there in good time. And so she ran from the path into the wood to look for flowers. And whenever she had picked one, she fancied that she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.
Meanwhile the wolf ran straight to the grandmother's house and knocked at the door.
"Who is there?"
"Little red-cap," replied the wolf. "She is bringing cake and wine. Open the door."
"Lift the latch," called out the grandmother, "I am too weak, and cannot get up."
The wolf lifted the latch, the door sprang open, and without saying a word he went straight to the grandmother's bed, and devoured her. Then he put on her clothes, dressed himself in her cap, laid himself in bed and drew the curtains.
Little red-cap, however, had been running about picking flowers, and when she had gathered so many that she could carry no more, she remembered her grandmother, and set out on the way to her.
She was surprised to find the cottage-door standing open, and when she went into the room, she had such a strange feeling that she said to herself, oh dear, how uneasy I feel to-day, and at other times I like being with grandmother so much. She called out, "good morning," but received no answer. So she went to the bed and drew back the curtains. There lay her grandmother with her cap pulled far over her face, and looking very strange.
"Oh, grandmother," she said, "what big ears you have." "The better to hear you with, my child," was the reply. "But, grandmother, what big eyes you have," she said. "The better to see you with," my dear. "But, grandmother, what large hands you have." "The better to hug you with." "Oh, but, grandmother, what a terrible big mouth you have." "The better to eat you with."
And scarcely had the wolf said this, than with one bound he was out of bed and swallowed up red-cap.
When the wolf had appeased his appetite, he lay down again in the bed, fell asleep and began to snore very loud. The huntsman was just passing the house, and thought to himself, how the old woman is snoring. I must just see if she wants anything.
So he went into the room, and when he came to the bed, he saw that the wolf was lying in it. Do I find you here, you old sinner, said he. I have long sought you. Then just as he was going to fire at him, it occurred to him that the wolf might have devoured the grandmother, and that she might still be saved, so he did not fire, but took a pair of scissors, and began to cut open the stomach of the sleeping wolf. When he had made two snips, he saw the little red-cap shining, and then he made two snips more, and the little girl sprang out, crying, ah, how frightened I have been. How dark it was inside the wolf. And after that the aged grandmother came out alive also, but scarcely able to breathe. Red-cap, however, quickly fetched great stones with which they filled the wolf's belly, and when he awoke, he wanted to run away, but the stones were so heavy that he collapsed at once, and fell dead.
Then all three were delighted. The huntsman drew off the wolf's skin and went home with it. The grandmother ate the cake and drank the wine which red-cap had brought, and revived, but red-cap thought to herself, as long as I live, I will never by myself leave the path, to run into the wood, when my mother has forbidden me to do so.
It is also related that once when red-cap was again taking cakes to the old grandmother, another wolf spoke to her, and tried to entice her from the path. Red-cap, however, was on her guard, and went straight forward on her way, and told her grandmother that she had met the wolf, and that he had said good-morning to her, but with such a wicked look in his eyes, that if they had not been on the public road she was certain he would have eaten her up. Well, said the grandmother, we will shut the door, that he may not come in. Soon afterwards the wolf knocked, and cried, open the door, grandmother, I am little red-cap, and am bringing you some cakes. But they did not speak, or open the door, so the grey-beard stole twice or thrice round the house, and at last jumped on the roof, intending to wait until red-cap went home in the evening, and then to steal after her and devour her in the darkness. But the grandmother saw what was in his thoughts. In front of the house was a great stone trough, so she said to the child, take the pail, red-cap. I made some sausages yesterday, so carry the water in which I boiled them to the trough. Red-cap carried until the great trough was quite full. Then the smell of the sausages reached the wolf, and he sniffed and peeped down, and at last stretched out his neck so far that he could no longer keep his footing and began to slip, and slipped down from the roof straight into the great trough, and was drowned. But red-cap went joyously home, and no one ever did anything to harm her again.

一位獵人碰巧從屋前走過，心想：「這老太太鼾打得好響啊！我要進去看看她是不是出什麼事了。」獵人進了屋，來到床前時卻發現躺在那裡的竟是狼。 「你這老壞蛋，我找了你這么久，真沒想到在這里找到你！」他說。他正准備向狼開槍，突然又想到，這狼很可能把奶奶吞進了肚子，奶奶也許還活著。獵人就沒有開槍，而是操起一把剪刀，動手把呼呼大睡的狼的肚子剪了開來。他剛剪了兩下，就看到了紅色的小帽子。他又剪了兩下，小姑娘便跳了出來，叫道：「真把我嚇壞了！狼肚子里黑漆漆的。」接著，奶奶也活著出來了，只是有點喘不過氣來。小紅帽趕緊跑去搬來幾塊大石頭，塞進狼的肚子。狼醒來之後想逃走，可是那些石頭太重了，它剛站起來就跌到在地，摔死了。
三個人高興極了。獵人剝下狼皮，回家去了；奶奶吃了小紅帽帶來的蛋糕和葡萄酒，精神好多了；而小紅帽卻在想：「要是媽媽不允許，我一輩子也不獨自離開大路，跑進森林了。」
人們還說，小紅帽後來又有一次把蛋糕送給奶奶，而且在路上又有一隻狼跟她搭話，想騙她離開大路。可小紅帽這次提高了警惕，頭也不回地向前走。她告訴奶奶她碰到了狼，那傢伙嘴上雖然對她說「你好」，眼睛裡卻露著凶光，要不是在大路上，它准把她給吃了。「那麼，」奶奶說，「我們把門關緊，不讓它進來。」不一會兒，狼真的一面敲著門一面叫道：「奶奶，快開門呀。我是小紅帽，給你送蛋糕來了。」但是她們既不說話，也不開門。這長著灰毛的傢伙圍著房子轉了兩三圈，最後跳上屋頂，打算等小紅帽在傍晚回家時偷偷跟在她的後面，趁天黑把她吃掉。可奶奶看穿了這傢伙的壞心思。她想起屋子前有一個大石頭槽子，便對小姑娘說：「小紅帽，把桶拿來。我昨天做了一些香腸，提些煮香腸的水去倒進石頭槽里。」小紅帽提了很多很多水，把那個大石頭槽子裝得滿滿的。香腸的氣味飄進了狼的鼻孔，它使勁地用鼻子聞呀聞，並且朝下張望著，到最後把脖子伸得太長了，身子開始往下滑。它從屋頂上滑了下來，正好落在大石槽中，淹死了。小紅帽高高興興地回了家，從此再也沒有誰傷害過她。
