此曲開始的主奏樂器是 鋼片琴（ Celesta——既是英語，又是法語的 「天堂之音」 ），鋼片琴音色迷人，純凈透明，猶如天籟。是法國人mustel · victer發明。 但現在它的發音板和共鳴管都是用鋁材製作，是一種體鳴樂器，外型類似小型直立式鋼琴，也用鍵盤彈奏。 首先使用鋼片琴演奏的作品就是柴可夫斯基著名的芭蕾舞劇《胡桃夾子》里的《糖果仙子之舞》。此外鋼片琴在聖·桑的《動物狂歡節》的《水族館》里也有精彩表現。
