此曲开始的主奏乐器是 钢片琴（ Celesta——既是英语，又是法语的 “天堂之音” ），钢片琴音色迷人，纯净透明，犹如天籁。是法国人mustel · victer发明。 但现在它的发音板和共鸣管都是用铝材制作，是一种体鸣乐器，外型类似小型直立式钢琴，也用键盘弹奏。 首先使用钢片琴演奏的作品就是柴可夫斯基著名的芭蕾舞剧《胡桃夹子》里的《糖果仙子之舞》。此外钢片琴在圣·桑的《动物狂欢节》的《水族馆》里也有精彩表现。
